Sphere of Light Award: Juror's Statement

During jury deliberations for the Dome Fest West awards some concern was expressed, in light of the current Russia-Ukraine conflict, regarding sensitivities around a traditional Ukrainian lullaby sung by a well known Russian artist in a fulldome film from Russian producer Sergey Kozintsev..

The Sphere of Light award is chosen by a special jury from c3: Center for Conscious Creativity, a nonprofit dedicated to making a better world through media, arts and entertainment. c3's jurors noted that, despite the current conflict, US and Russian scientists, astronauts and others continue to collaborate despite global conflict.

However, to avoid any doubt, we asked Lullaby's producer, Sergey Kozintsev, what his intent was behind the film. This is his reply:

"This film is very important to me. I myself spent my entire childhood in Ukraine, in the city of Kremenchug on the Dnieper. My relatives still live there.

"Now I live in Russia. What is happening now is very painful for me. And not only for me. There are a lot of people in Russia for whom what is happening is terrible.

"My film is about peace and quiet. About what nights in Ukraine should look like. The lullaby that sounds there is a 19th century lullaby, something eternal, timeless, connecting the past and the future."

All of us at c3 and Dome Fest West sincerely hope for a peaceful resolution to the Russia-Ukraine war, healing for all involved and an end to all such aggressions worldwide. To us, Lullaby expresses our hope for unity and peace and, in this spirit, we proudly grant the Sphere of Light Award to Lullaby by Sergey Kozintsev.
